Private Yoga Instruction
"We are shaped and fashioned by what we love" - Johann Wolfgang Von GoetheJessica's power yoga offers a completely effective and well rounded workout, which includes successive postures that are uniquely complimentary. Your session will begin with a series of quickly paced sun salutations (see below). The initial pace is quick in order to warm your body, so that it is open and able to express the postures with ease. You need to be hot in order to stretch. To maintain this heat, strength work is done concurrently and continuously while stretching. The postures will change from class to class, reaching all of the intricate muscles of the body. This keeps the classes interesting and gives the practice a cross-training effect.
After the warm-up, the practice gets right into the powerful postures that are held a bit longer to push your edge, gain strength and transform your body. When practiced with proper alignment, all the postures are completely safe for your body and its joints.
The last third of the class is spent stretching down. This portion is designed to go deeply into postures, slow the breath and turn the focus inward. The final pose, Savasana or resting pose, is where the good karma of all the hard work is felt and the yogi basks in what is known as yoga bliss.
Everyone can benefit from Sol Power Yoga. If you have any of these concerns, you are a perfect candidate for private yoga classes.

About Power Yoga
Power yoga is a form of Astanga yoga. In Sanskrit, Astanga yoga is "yoga chikitsa" which means "Yoga Therapy". Astanga Yoga is designed to specifically align the body and rehabilitate it fully from injury while strengthening it for future protection. Power yoga and Astanga yoga share the vinyasa, or connecting movements, between postures. The vinyasa train you in mental and physical endurance in order to flow through the form without stopping. The emphasis is on strength and constancy, on concentration and flow. Power Yoga is rooted in the idea that injury comes from imbalance in the body. The postures balance the body so that it is equally as flexible as it is strong. In addition to balance, Power Yoga helps build endurance. The lungs are trained to increase their volume while training the heart to increase its efficiency. Power Yoga is designed to develop strength and flexibility both concurrently and alternatively.
This yoga can actually help to heal injuries. When an injury is acquired, the healing process typically consists of resting and allowing the inflammation to subside. When on the mend, the same routine is picked right up and the same injury is bound to follow shortly after. This can be avoided if the frame/structure of the body is opened, realigned, and strengthened. In healing an injury, it is important to remember that our active participation is required to have long lasting health.
Iyengar says that "peace of mind generates abundant energy for human uplift". But how do we cultivate peace of mind? The Power Yoga postures require a prolonged focus which helps to pull us out of the chaos of our minds and claim our lives in the present. Who couldn't use a little peace of mind?
Sun Salutation A
Sun Salutation or "surya namaskar" is the basic foundation for the power yoga practice. Surya Namaskar literally means "obeisance to the sun". The Sun Salutations are a complete workout in themselves and thoroughly warm up the entire body, preparing it to awaken to the benefits of the postures.
